Rough Cut
During lockdown, we’ve discovered many moments in our narrative that resonate with the current mood. As we no longer have the deadline of the Brighton Festival, we’ve extended production to draw these out.
Like many, our protagonist Jay finds that the relentless treadmill of urban life has stopped unexpectedly, giving him time to pause, reflect and return with a new perspective on his relationship with time and himself. We’ve developed the visuals for the City, limited character interaction to highlight personal reflection, and found unexpected moments of urban wildlife.
Leo and Ko continued to paint assets to complete the characters and environment, from smoke transitions to filling the Academy with drawing boards and easels. Leo continued to experiment with the digital production, re-finding the playfulness fluidity and transparency of watercolour. At the same time, Andy developed the sound design, amplifying concepts of Time and the City. Andrew worked with this to compose the final music, driving the emotional narrative from start to finish.
We ended the month with a rough cut and began the long run of festival submissions with the expert advice of producer Abigail Addison.
