Taking inspiration from the book Contemporary Figures in Watercolour, you will be guided through a series of exercises to develop technique and encourage creativity.
Working with a portrait model, we will look at anatomy, mark making, composition and narrative. After lunch, we will work on a long pose with one-to-one support. By the end of the day, you will have created a final piece to take home.
Whether an experienced artist or new to portraiture, you will be encouraged to push the boundaries of your practice and take risks. Charcoal and pastels will be provided, but you are welcome to bring watercolours, acrylics or other materials, should you wish. Please note that work will need to be taken home with you at the end of the day.
This course is led by Leo Crane, award-winning animator, painter and tutor. He is co-founder of Figuration, a creative studio for animation and design. He holds an MA (Distinction) in 3D Computer Animation and trained in painting under Maggi Hambling CBE.
